With the release of the September 2013 Cumulative Update for the Lync 2013 client, there is a known issue with presence not updating based on the user's free/busy status from their Exchange calendar.You can find more information about the issue in KB2883716. If your Lync 2013 client has the September 2013 update installed your Lync client version will be 15.0.4535.1002.This issue is being actively being investigated by the Lync team at Microsoft so stay tuned.It was blank but when I pressed the down arrow I could the lines from OOO.After deleting the OOO and adding a custom message it cleared the flag but then clearing the custom message the OOO flag returned.When writing a new email in Outlook and you also use Microsoft Communicator, Outlook can display the current status in real time of the people you are writing to.

Recently there as been many reports of Presence issues with the Lync 2013 client.

The issue is documented in this support KB article: Presence status isn’t updated based on Exchange calendar in Lync 2013.

In a nutshell there is an issue with the integration between the Lync 2013 client and Exchange which impacts the synchronization between the Lync 2013 client and the Outlook calendar information (such as “in a meeting”) and the Out-Of-Office status.

The Lync Client was 2010 running July 2013 Update against a Lync 2013 Server Enterprise Pool.

The resolution was to rename the Cache in C:\Users\App Data\Local\Microsoft\Communicator.
